Alastin - Gentle Cleanser

Alastin Gentle Cleanser is a soap-free daily face wash that removes makeup, sunscreen, and the fine particulate pollution that settles on skin through the day, without stripping the barrier that keeps skin comfortable. It rinses completely and leaves no film, so the actives you apply afterward absorb the way they are meant to.

The formula includes antioxidants and calming botanicals, which is unusual in a cleanser and useful given how much of a routine's irritation actually starts at the cleansing step. It works as a single evening wash or as the second step of a double cleanse after an oil or balm.

It is appropriate for all skin types including sensitive skin, and it is gentle enough to use after most in-office treatments once your provider clears you to resume cleansing.

1. Wet your face with lukewarm water. Hot water strips the barrier.
2. Massage a small amount over your face and neck for 30 to 60 seconds.
3. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Do not rub.
4. Use morning and evening, or evening only if your skin is very dry.

If you wear heavy sunscreen or long-wear makeup, use a cleansing oil or balm first, then follow with this cleanser as your second step.

Cleanser is the step patients most often underestimate. A harsh wash undoes the work of an expensive serum, and a great deal of the redness and tightness people blame on their retinoid actually traces back to the cleanser they used first. This one is deliberately unremarkable, and that is the point: it removes what needs removing and leaves the barrier intact.
