Alastin Renewal Retinol 0.5 is a 0.5% retinol serum in which the retinol is encapsulated in a solid lipid. That encapsulation slows and steadies delivery into the skin, which is what allows a meaningful concentration to work without the flaking, redness, and stinging that cause most people to abandon retinol in the first month.

Retinol remains the most thoroughly evidenced over-the-counter ingredient for fine lines, uneven texture, and tone. This formulation surrounds it with calming and hydrating support: oat extract and silver mushroom to soothe and hold water, and coenzyme Q-10 to help protect the retinol's activity in the bottle.

It is a nighttime product. Use it consistently and expect the first visible changes in texture and tone at around eight to twelve weeks.

1. At night, cleanse and dry your skin completely. Applying retinol to damp skin increases irritation.
2. Apply a pea-sized amount to your whole face, avoiding the immediate eye area, the corners of the nose, and the lip line.
3. Follow with your moisturizer. Applying moisturizer first, then retinol, also works and is gentler if you are sensitive.
4. Start twice a week for two weeks, then three times a week, then increase as tolerated up to nightly.
5. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen every morning. Retinol increases sun sensitivity.

Stop use several days before laser, waxing, or peels, and do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
