SkinMedica - AHA/BHA Cleanser

SkinMedica AHA/BHA Cleanser combines alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acid, and gentle physical exfoliating beads in a single cleansing step, improving the appearance of skin tone, texture, and smoothness.

Combining the three covers different territory. The alpha hydroxy acids work on the skin surface, the salicylic acid penetrates into the pore, and the beads provide immediate mechanical smoothing.

Because it is a rinse-off product, the contact time is short, which makes the acid content well tolerated by most skin types. It thoroughly cleanses while gently exfoliating and suits all skin types.

1. Wet your face with lukewarm water.
2. Massage a small amount over the face and neck for 30 to 60 seconds, using light pressure. Let the acids and beads do the work.
3. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
4. Use once daily to start. Increase to twice daily only if your skin is comfortable.
5. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen every morning.

Do not use on the same day as another exfoliant. Pause before and after peels, laser treatments, or waxing.

An exfoliating cleanser is a sensible way to get regular exfoliation, because the short contact time limits how much irritation the acids can cause. It is also a common source of accidental over-exfoliation, because patients do not count it.

Our providers' rule: if this is your exfoliant, twice daily is fine once your skin has adjusted. If you also use peel pads, an acid toner, a scrub, or a retinoid, drop it to once daily and never combine it with another exfoliant in the same session.
